Eutrophication

Eutrophication is the process by which a body of water becomes enriched with respect to dissolved nutrients that stimulate the growth of aquatic plants resulting in depletion of dissolved oxygen. Dead zones are areas in the ocean where this process has resulted in areas with little life due to depleted oxygen levels.
